Inspiration Journey

A 2-day journey with leadership in times of transition

Van Wijnen develops, builds, renovates, transforms, and manages properties. To address trends such as rising construction costs, housing shortages, and sustainability demands, Van Wijnen aims to focus on digitalization and transition to industrial construction. To inspire the management team during this transition with external examples, we organized a two-day inspiration journey. Leading companies facing similar challenges shared their experiences and insights.

Approach

To fully understand the context, we began with an in-depth exploration of the organization. Together, we identified relevant themes and, through two iterations, shaped a program featuring prominent companies and C-level speakers.

The two-day journey offered a varied program where all key themes were well represented. Sufficient time for discussion and reflection was provided with extended lunch breaks and short pauses. As facilitators, we focused on complete support and encouraging critical thinking. The selected locations in The Hague and the Utrecht area, including a dinner and overnight stay, created an atmosphere that fostered innovation, a positive energy and joy.

Result

The Inspiration Journey provided Van Wijnen’s management team with strengthened internal connections, valuable insights, and confirmation. Speakers such as Stedin, Siemens, and Miele aligned well with the challenges and choices Van Wijnen faces, including the transition to new revenue models and digitalization. Discussions based on the presentations, like those from the Delta Program, encouraged open dialogue and highlighted the urgency of some strategic decisions. This led to valuable conversations on innovation, customer awareness, leadership and many other topics. The journey also confirmed Van Wijnen’s current Strategic Course while reinforcing the understanding that transformation brings inevitable challenges.

Participants rated the journey with an average score of 9, a result we are proud of. The board has challenged us to surpass ourselves next year, and we gladly accept!

“For the two-day Inspiration Journey, Digital Shapers matched our themes with the various companies and speakers, ensuring that every presentation and discussion provided relevant anchor points that helped us move forward. The collaboration with DS was excellent. At times, we received encouragement for our choices, sometimes pitfalls were highlighted that are also on our path, and at other times we found the strength to continue on our strategic course.”
